Belair is one of the 24 districts of Luxembourg City. Located west of the Upper Town, a central and historic district, it is adjacent to the districts of Rollingergrund, Merl, and Hollerich.

The Belair neighborhood is highly sought after. Today, it is home to nearly 10% of Luxembourg City's population within an area of 2 km2. It is the second most populous neighborhood after the more popular Bonnevoie neighborhood.

Luxembourgers make up 30% of the population. The French community represents 16% of Belair's population, far ahead of other foreign communities.

Belair is inhabited by a population whose age range is mainly between 28 and 49 years old. Most of them are wealthy families living in private houses with gardens.

Atmosphere of the Belair neighborhood in Luxembourg

An ultra-residential neighborhood in the city of Luxembourg, Belair is sought after for its tranquility and quality of life. However, heavy traffic during rush hour can cause some congestion. Its location and flat topography make it very easy to reach the city center by bike.

The " Wunnquartier Stade" real estate project around the former Josy Barthel stadium will see a total transformation of the neighborhood. Plans call for the preservation of part of the stadium with the creation of a green space, a central plaza-style square, and an opening onto the Route d'Arlon.

The transformation of Place de l'Etoile will also breathe new life into this highly residential neighborhood with the 2035 Mobility Plan. A pedestrian area will be built around a tram line to Strassen and numerous shops.

Schools and childcare facilities in Belair

The Belair neighborhood offers a comprehensive range of services to meet the needs of families. There are numerous nurseries, including two daycare centers and municipal nurseries.

There are also two Luxembourgish elementary schools: Diderich and Kayser. The private nursery and elementary school "OTR International School" offers multilingual education.

The Athénée high school, one of Luxembourg's oldest and most prestigious high schools, is located near this neighborhood.

Green spaces and sports facilities in the Belair neighborhood of Luxembourg

Children can also have fun in the many playgrounds in the Belair neighborhood. Of particular note is the Schéiwisschen playground on Rue Charlemagne. Reserved for children aged 0 to 12, it features a fortified castle with a keep to inspire the dreams of all princesses and young knights. The swings, rope bridges, and slides offer plenty of space for the more adventurous.

A new, fully enclosed playground has also opened on Rue Lou Koster. Children can enjoy over 1,600 m² of swings, slides, climbing structures, and even a large sandpit.

Families can also easily reach Merl Park for walks or fun.

Two gyms, a tennis club, and the Merl/Belair sports complex complete the sports facilities.

Cultural spaces in the Belair district of Luxembourg

The Schéiss cultural center and the Institut Saint Jean community center welcome residents.

The Belair church offers Mass in French on Sundays.

Transport/Bus in the Belair neighborhood

Residents of the neighborhood would like to see improvements to cycling routes and more facilities for pedestrians. Better connections via other means of transport, such as trams, would also be appreciated.

Bus lines 6, 8, 12, 13, 15, 28, 31, CN 2 and their 43 bus stops provide easy access to the Hamilius hub in the city center.

There are alsoVeloh stations.

The Route d'Arlon recycling center is available to residents of Merl and Belair for waste disposal.

Living in the Belair neighborhood of Luxembourg

Belair is a pleasant neighborhood with a chic, family-friendly, and rather traditional atmosphere. The neighborhood attracts a wealthy population. There are beautiful mansions with gardens in this neighborhood.

Located a stone's throw from the city center, it offers proximity to shops and excellent connections to major roads. It is also particularly quiet and pleasant to live in.

Dotted with green spaces, including Parc Merl, the Belair neighborhood is a popular meeting place for expatriate mothers who have recently arrived in Luxembourg. It enjoys an ideal geographical location.

Seniors can also live in this neighborhood, with the Sacré Coeur retirement home nearby.

Belair is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the Luxembourg capital, along with Limpetsberg, with prices exceeding €14,000 per square meter.
