Cents, a residential neighborhood with a majority Luxembourgish population

Cents is one of the 24 districts of Luxembourg City. Cents is primarily a residential district, with the lowest proportion of non-Luxembourg residents in the capital.
It is often compared to the nearby district of Hamm.

Despite strong population growth in the early 2000s, the Cents district remains an area inhabited mainly by native Luxembourgers. It is also the only district in Luxembourg City that is still predominantly Luxembourgish.

Located to the east of the Luxembourg capital, it forms a whole with the Hammand Pulvermühl neighborhoods. Residential, quiet, and very green, these neighborhoods are rapidly expanding.

The Cents district is located on either side of Rue de Trêves, the historic road between Luxembourg City and the city of Trier in Germany. Cents also serves the historic districts of Grund and Clausen.

History of the Cents district in Luxembourg

Rural at the beginning of the century, the neighborhood developed in the 1960s with the construction of affordable housing in the Cité Frommes. The Church of the Holy Spirit was built in the late 1970s and is the most recent church in the country.

There is a Carmelite convent in Cents. Two communities of nuns live there with a chaplain. One community is more apostolic and the other more contemplative, welcoming visitors for prayers or religious ceremonies in the monastery.

Transport links in the Cents district

A major project is planned to build a magnificent engineering structure by 2025. The footbridge, accessible to pedestrians and cyclists, will connect the Cents district with the Kirchberg district. This suspension bridge will also provide a direct link between Cents and the Weimershof and Neudorf districts via an elevator.

Cents is ideally served by several bus lines with 40 bus stops. The CFL train to and from Luxembourg stops at Cents/Hamm station.

Schools and childcare in Cents

There is a primary school in the Cents district. Cycle 1 is located on Rue Léon Kauffman and Rue Tornaco. Cycles 2 to 4 are located on Rue Léon Kauffman. A school center welcomes children for extracurricular activities.

There is also a new nursery on Rue de Trêves.

Outings and leisure activities in the Cents neighborhood of Luxembourg

There are several playgrounds for children in Cents.

The Op der Heed playground is dedicated to the world of aviation. Children will find lifelike planes, a runway, a control tower, a fuel pump, and more.

Sports fields are available for soccer and other sports. A tennis club is also available to residents of this neighborhood, as well as a pétanque court.

A community center welcomes residents for various events and associations.

The FNEL scout hut is located in Cents, close to the National Sports Institute.

Living in the Cents neighborhood of Luxembourg

The Cents neighborhood is primarily a family neighborhood, offering a green, calm, and airy atmosphere in close proximity to Luxembourg City Center.

The neighborhood can be noisy due to air traffic and planes flying to and fromFindel Airport, located nearby.

There are several shops where residents can do their shopping.

It should be noted that very few rentals are available in the Cents neighborhood and rents are high.

Cents is a peaceful residential neighborhood offering a pleasant living environment, green spaces, and proximity to Luxembourg city center, making it a popular place to live for families and people looking for a quiet environment.

Residents would like to see more meeting places in order to promote social cohesion in the neighborhood.
