Slow Food Grand-Duché

Slow Food Grand-DuchéHealth - Well-being

Slow Food Grand Duchy is an active convivium in Luxembourg, committed to promoting good, clean, and fair food, in line with the founding principles of the international Slow Food movement. Created in response to a growing desire among citizens to consume differently, to promote local expertise, and to rebuild the link between producers and consumers, Slow Food Grand Duchy acts at the local level, with a global vision.

Our vision

Slow Food Grand Duchy advocates a vision of food based on three inseparable pillars:

  • Good: food that tastes good, derived from rich culinary traditions, rooted in seasonality and terroir.
  • Clean: food produced with respect for the environment, without the use of pesticides or destructive intensive agriculture.
  • Fair: accessible to all, while guaranteeing fair remuneration for producers.

This vision is cultural, ecological, and political. It is not just about what we eat, but how, why, and with whom we do so.

Our objectives

Slow Food Grand Duchy's actions are structured around four main areas:

  1. Raising public awareness of food issues, from biodiversity to social justice.
  2. Supporting local producers and artisans of taste who are committed to responsible agriculture or processing.
  3. Educating young and old alike about conscious, sustainable, and joyful eating.
  4. Creating links between consumers, producers, chefs, educators, researchers, and other agents of change.

Our activities

1. Workshops and events

Slow Food Grand Duchy offers open and friendly events throughout the year, which allow you to:

  • Discover forgotten, local, or artisanal products.
  • Understand the challenges of sustainable agriculture and food processing.
  • Share meals prepared collectively using seasonal products.
  • Practice skills such as fermentation, sourdough bread making, preservation, and natural beverage production.

These events are designed to be friendly and educational, where you can learn while you taste.

2. Taste and food education

We organize activities for school groups, families, and adults with the following objectives:

  • Reinstilling in children the pleasure of tasting and discovering raw foods.
  • Explain where food comes from and how it is produced.
  • Introduce participants to gardening, foraging, and simple, sustainable cooking.
  • Address key issues such as food waste, seasonality, and short supply chains.

3. Support for producers and artisans

Slow Food Grand Duchy promotes the work of producers, farmers, breeders, bakers, brewers, cheesemakers, etc. who are committed to practices that respect nature and people. We organize:

  • Visits to farms and workshops.
  • Markets or presentation stands at public events.
  • Portraits and testimonials published online or in our publications.

Our goal: to rediscover the richness and diversity of local products and empower citizens to choose food that makes sense.

4. Participation in international campaigns and networks

In conjunction with the international Slow Food network, we participate in projects such as:

  • The Ark of Taste, which lists food products threatened with extinction.
  • Terra Madre, the great global gathering of food communities, held every two years in Turin. For the first time, Terra Madre Europe will be held in Brussels in June 2025.
  • International awareness days such as Slow Food Day, World Food Day, and Biodiversity Day.

Our values

Respect for life

We believe that food should be produced with respect for life: that of the soil, plants, animals, and humans. This involves promoting agroecology, permaculture, extensive farming, and rejecting destructive industrial systems.

Fairness and solidarity

We defend the right of everyone to eat with dignity, in accordance with their beliefs and means. This involves fighting food insecurity, including vulnerable groups, and supporting those who produce food in often difficult conditions.

Conviviality and transmission

We believe in the power of shared meals: they are a place to learn, debate, laugh, and listen to one another. Passing on knowledge, recipes, and culinary stories is at the heart of our practices.

Openness and cooperation

Although local, our gaze is turned toward the world. We believe in exchanges between cultures, bridges between generations, and links between communities. Food is a universal language.
