Bike rides in Luxembourg and beyond

Luxembourg is a beautiful country that offers wonderful opportunities for cycling trips alone, with friends, or with family. Have you just arrived in Luxembourg as an expat and want to discover the country? Hop on your bike, we'll take you for a ride!

Riding your bike allows you to discover another side of the country, a more bucolic Luxembourg, focused on nature. Follow the roads or marked trails to ride through fields ready for harvest in summer, admire the beautiful colors of the forests in autumn, enjoy the fresh air of spring, and more. Why not take the opportunity to stop for a picnic or a snack in the beautiful Luxembourg countryside?

Mountain bike enthusiasts can explore the forests and other natural areas. Prefer road cycling? There are numerous bike paths for everyone's comfort and enjoyment.

Cycle paths in Luxembourg

Luxembourg has many bike paths in and outside of cities. The national network includes approximately 950 km of bike paths, 600 km of which are currently paved. More and more municipalities are formalizing roads and paths for bicycles. You can find these marked paths by following the blue signs displaying a white bicycle.

How can you find cycle paths in Luxembourg?

All national cycle paths are listed on the Ponts et Chaussés website. There you will find a map of national cycle paths, with useful information for each section. You can also download the routes. Very handy for making sure you don't get lost along the way!

The luxvelo.lu website also lists cycle paths in Luxembourg and beyond. You will find lots of ideas for bike rides in Luxembourg, Belgium, France, and Germany. In addition to providing information about the route, the site also has an online Google Map and GPX tracks.

The Luxembourg by Cycle map is also very useful and full of information. It provides details on the characteristics of the trails, elevation changes, and distances of the various cycling routes. It also lists bike rental locations.
The explanations on the map are in French, German, and English. For points of sale, visit lvi.lu.
It also shows the cycle paths that run alongside old railway lines. This is invaluable information for discovering beautiful spots far from home without having to cycle hundreds of kilometers. What a pleasure! These routes are particularly suitable for family outings. The paths are often flat and you can even take the train back. This encourages you to cycle a little further each time.

Cycle from station to station with the cycle paths listed by CFL

It is also possible to explore Luxembourg by bike using the various routes that run from station to station. The CFL rail network makes it easy to combine train and bike travel. Most of these routes, which are suitable for all levels, are part of the national cycle path network.

Cycling trips along the Moselle, Sûre, and Our rivers

The Moselle Valley and its vineyards can be explored over one or more days by bike.

The Visitmoselle.fr website lists the various cycle paths in the region, indicating the level of difficulty of each route. Don't forget that although the banks of the Moselle are flat, visiting the surrounding villages can quickly turn into a sporting challenge as you climb the vineyard slopes. Be careful before venturing there with young children. But what beauty there is in the Moselle Valley!

For these bike tours through the Moselle, Sûre and Our regions, you can stay at youth hostels at a reasonable price. Remerschen, Echternach, Vianden, Larochette and Luxembourg are charming places to stop off. The youth hostels are fairly comfortable and you can even take advantage of package deals.
