Outings - Leisure

Have you ever seen thousands of ducks racing down a small river? No? Then don't miss the 25th edition of the Duck Race in Luxembourg, which will take place at the end of April 2026. Let's hope it doesn't clash with the DKV Urban Trail. Find out more about this sporting event! We'd be forced to choose between the two, and we don't want to...

The Duck Race: a charity event and fun

So what is the Duck Race? The Duck Race is above all a great opportunity to enjoy the return of sunny days. It's also a chance to take part in a fun and entertaining event in Luxembourg with family or friends. But above all, the Duck Race is a charity event, organized to help those most in need. In addition, the Duck Race is a "Green Event" certified event and is committed to organizing an eco-responsible event with a reduced impact on the environment. So you too can sponsor your duck so that it can be on the starting line for the next Duck Race. Traditionally, the race starts on the forecourt of Neimenster Abbey in the Grund district, on the banks of the Alzette River. During the event, regional cuisine and numerous activities await participants, making this unique race a real celebration with DJ sets. Starting at noon, the Duck Race also offers many activities for children. Food stands allow visitors to sample local specialties. The race starts at 3:00 p.m.

Thousands of ducks in the Alzette

The Duck Race is a race featuring ducks. But not just any ducks: plastic ducks! For the 2025 edition, more than 20,000 ducks took part! So how many ducks will be at the starting line in 2026? Will the record be broken? Each participant buys one or more numbered tickets online on the Duck Race website. They then sponsor one or more ducks (€5 per duck). The numbered ducks are then released with great fanfare into the Alzette River. Spectators watch as thousands of plastic ducks race down the river. The fastest ducks will win their sponsors some fantastic prizes.

Proceeds from the Duck Race donated to charities

The Duck Race is very popular in Luxembourg. In addition to being fun and festive, this race is also popular because of its charitable aspect. All proceeds from the race are donated to charities. Every year, organizations working for the well-being of children or adults share tens of thousands of euros. They will be on site to present their projects to help the most disadvantaged and those in need. In 2025, the associations Rokku Mi Rokka, Fondation Jugend- an Drogenhëllef, Study-Help, Pharmaciens Sans Frontières Luxembourg, Pour une parenthèse, Asha 4 Children, Entwécklung duerch Gerechten Handel and Aide au Bénin asbl were honored. Charity is a great reason to come and compete! Want to take part? Simply visit the Duck Race Luxembourg website to buy a ticket and put your duck on the starting line. The last edition raised €90,000, which was donated to charities.

A race with prizes to be won and entertainment

What prizes are there for the winners? There are lots of prizes for the winners of the race. Every year, the lucky sponsor of the first duck to cross the finish line wins a car! In 2025, the first prize was a Volkswagen Polo. The second prize was an outdoor kitchen. An electric bike, vouchers worth up to €2,500, and many other prizes were also awarded to the fastest ducks. While the prizes are a good reason to enter your duck in the Duck Race, the event is also very attractive for spectators. Admission is free. Numerous sponsors support the Duck Race, including Spuerkeess as banking partner and the insurance company Lalux for insurance. Wine and crémant producer Bernard-Massard is also involved . So come along on April 26 for a relaxing and fun time with family or friends. For more ideas for leisure activities and outings in Luxembourg, click here
