Civil servants and government employees in Luxembourg

According to the latest figures, the Luxembourg government employed nearly 37,360 civil servants and government employees, more than half of whom are women. The average monthly salary in the civil service is €8,200 during the two-year probationary period, rising to more than €9,240 after five years of experience. Civil servants are among the highest paid sectors in Luxembourg.

The municipal administration of the City of Luxembourg had a workforce of 4,547 people.

  • Cargolux Airlines International SA now employs 3,200 people and has risen from 25th to 10th place at Findel
  • 18th place for Emile Weber Voyages, headquartered in Canach: 2,310 employees (workforce increasing)
  • Ranked 28th, the Luxair SA group (passenger air transport – Munsbach) employs 1,880 people.

Commerce sector

  • 4th place, the Amazon Group (e-commerce) with 4,370 employees
  • 5th place across all sectors, Cactus Group, retail – hypermarkets/supermarkets, headquartered in Windhof, with 4,310 employees
  • 28th largest employer, La Provençale SARL, wholesale trade, located in Leudelange with 1,690 employees.

  • 27th place, the BIL Group with 1,790 employees.
