SMCIEducation - Higher education

Italian school approved by the Ministry of Education

The Scuola Materna Cattolica Internazionale is an international school for early childhood and preschool education, welcoming children aged 3 to 6, Monday to Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. It is an international (multilingual) and Catholic school. It is approved by the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth.

Ideally located in Luxembourg City, at 19 Boulevard de la Pétrusse, it is easily accessible and enjoys a privileged setting. The proximity of the Pétrusse, as well as a playground and the school garden, allows us to organize many outings. Beneficial to children's well-being, nature is also an ideal playground for discovery, independence, and self-confidence.

Multilingual education in French, English, and Italian

Teaching is offered in two languages of your choice: English-Italian, English-French, or Italian-French. The teachers are qualified and have rich and varied backgrounds (some have Montessori training, while others have degrees in education and teaching obtained in their own countries). In addition to developing language skills (comprehension and expression), children discover the cultures of different countries.

The two chosen languages are each taught for four half-days per week. One half-day per week is devoted to an introduction to Luxembourgish (for all).

Based on the European Schools' "Early Education" program, the school also incorporates the Montessori method. The main skills we aim to develop are communication (in the mother tongue and foreign languages), the development of skills in mathematics, science, and technology, "learning to learn," the development of social and civic skills, and the development of artistic and psychomotor skills.

A unique environment for children's development

A family school in Luxembourg

SCMI is a family school. The number of children is limited to 25. This small number allows us to respect the children's rhythm. A quiet room allows those who need it to take a nap while the others benefit from personalized teaching time.

Developing learning potential

Our goal is to develop children'slearning potential and abilities by drawing on their curiosity and creativity and placing them in a calm and joyful environment.

In practical terms, learning takes place through rituals and a variety of media: albums, creative workshops, games, nature, cooking, and music. Children's five senses are engaged, and skills are acquired through experimentation. Choirs and art workshops are offered each week, providing opportunities to discover artists and experiment with their own artistic potential.

Spiritual awareness and discovery of the Catholic religion

Awakening to spirituality and discovering the Catholic religion are strong commitments of the school. A half-day of faith awareness is offered to children from the second year of Cycle 1, and prayer is part of the rituals for all children.

Discovering the Gospels allows us to address themes such as respect for oneself and others, sharing, eco-responsibility, and self-confidence. Pope Francis' encyclical "Laudato Si" (May 24, 2015) guides our approach.

By celebrating religious and civil traditions and holidays, children become immersed in their roots and grow up in a multicultural environment.

Fresh and healthy meals every day

Children enjoy fresh, healthy meals every day. A cook prepares lunch and morning and afternoon snacks on site. She selects seasonal Provençal produce herself and prepares balanced meals. Attentive to the children's tastes, she ensures that they discover new flavors and learn to respect food and the importance of not wasting it.

Once a month, the children take part in a "Cooking" workshop during which their senses of taste, smell, and touch are stimulated. They then enjoy tasting the food they have cooked themselves with pleasure and pride.

The cook and teaching assistant also contribute to the warm and caring welcome that the school is committed to providing.

School visits and enrollments, subject to availability, can be made at any time of the year.
