Trier: tourist attraction and shopping destination
Less than 50 km from Luxembourg, Trier is Germany's oldest city. There are still many reminders of its rich past and its Celtic, Roman, and Germanic history.
Don't miss the famous Porta Nigra, the northern gate of the ancient city wall built at the end of the 2nd century, or St. Peter's Cathedral, which houses the relic of the Holy Tunic. Both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
You will also enjoy shopping in the charming pedestrian streets of Trier. Prices are lower than in Luxembourg.
You can also enjoy the Christmas markets on the beautiful Hauptmarkt square.
Aachen, capital of Charlemagne's empire
Located on the border with Luxembourg (175 km away), the beautiful city of Aachen is the capital of Charlemagne's empire. Among other things, discover the magnificent cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the Palatine Chapel housing Charlemagne's tomb and Charlemagne's throne upstairs.
German cities such as Trier and Aachen are also worth visiting during the Advent markets to enjoy the magic and festivities of Christmas.
Koblenz and its cable car
172 km from Luxembourg, visit the pretty town of Koblenz. It bears witness to a rich past, from Roman times to the era of the Frankish kings.
What's more, treat yourself to an unforgettable trip with a spectacular cable car ride over the Rhine. You can then visit Ehrenbreitstein Fortress and enjoy a superb view of the picturesque city and the Deutsches Eck, a promontory located at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Admire the panorama stretching all the way to the Rhine Valley.
On the road to or from Koblenz to Luxembourg, don't hesitate to follow the Moselle Valley. You will discover the many castles along the river, as well as charming towns and villages surrounded by vineyards.
If you have time, continue on to the beautiful town of Bernkastel-Kues, located in the meanders of the Moselle. It attracts many tourists, so be patient in traffic jams.

Hiking in the Eifel Volcanic Park
An hour and a half from Luxembourg, the Eifel Volcano Park offers wonderful opportunities for hiking and other walks in the heart of the Eifel. This region is Germany's most recent volcanic region.
Several museums allow you to discover the region's geological heritage through the GeoPark. The lava dome in Merzig provides a lifelike account of a volcanic eruption, while the Laacher See bears witness to the intense volcanic activity in the region.

Eifelpark, amusement park for little ones in Gondorf
Located 64 km from Luxembourg, this amusement park in the middle of the forest is suitable for young children. They can have fun on a roller coaster adapted to their age, mini-karts, bumper boats, and giant slides. There is also a mini-zoo, clown shows, and a puppet theater.
