There are many extracurricular activities available in Luxembourg and elsewhere. There is a wide choice of nature and discovery camps, sports, vacation courses, language classes, and more.
Extracurricular activities offered by municipalities
Municipalities often organize courses or outings for local children during the school holidays. Both older and younger children will find something to enjoy during the holidays. Parents can also choose the languages for their children's activities.
Extracurricular activities in the City of Luxembourg
During the summer holidays, the City of Luxembourg offers "Sports Weeks" for young people aged 11 to 17. These take place in Luxembourg or even abroad. Qualified coaches and instructors supervise these courses, water sports, and land sports.
Registration is open to residents of the City of Luxembourg, but also to non-residents. Rates are progressive depending on the status of the participant. Please note that you should register quickly at the Bierger-Center of the City of Luxembourg. These courses fill up very quickly.
CAPEL – Center for Educational and Leisure Activities of the City of Luxembourg
CAPEL organizes free outdoor activities during the school holidays. CAPEL courses are reserved for children and young people who are residents of the City of Luxembourg.
Holiday activities (four weeks during the summer holidays) take place in the afternoons from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Participation is free of charge.
- Aktioun Bambësch
Aktioun Bambësch takes place from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. during the Easter, summer, and Christmas holidays. All children aged 5 to 12 can participate.
A special supervised bus service runs from different parts of the city to CAPEL. This service is free of charge.
- Aktioun Jugend Aktiv
By participating in Aktioun Jugend Aktiv, young people in Luxembourg City can spend their free time in a friendly, enjoyable, and creative way. This course takes place during the summer holidays for young people aged 13 to 17.
Luxembourg City Sports Department: holiday program
The City of Luxembourg has a special holiday program for young people aged 11 to 17. These week-long sports courses take place in the Grand Duchy and abroad. Accommodation is full board in youth hostels and sports centers. There are activities to suit all tastes: golf, sailing, horse riding, martial arts, climbing, skateboarding, mountain biking, etc.
Extracurricular activities in other municipalities in Luxembourg
Each municipality in Luxembourg offers specific activities for its young residents. The "Spillnometteger" or "afternoon games" are generally supervised by young people from the municipality. Ask your local municipal administration for more information . Registration opens in May/June.
Private daycare centers for children during school holidays
Private daycare centers can also look after your children during the school holidays. Given that expat families leave Luxembourg as soon as the holidays begin, these facilities may have places available.

Colonies.lu, summer camps in Luxembourg or abroad
The colonies.lu website works with numerous organizations and associations. It offers camps for children aged 4 and above and teenagers, in Luxembourg or elsewhere. There is a wide choice, even once the holidays have already started.
With a minimum duration of 5 days, the camps are supervised by certified counselors. In general, one counselor supervises 8 young people. Several themes are offered: sports or artistic activities, adventure camps, discovery camps, etc.
The colonies.lu website is very user-friendly. You can see at a glance the target age group, departure and return dates, prices, and the organizer of each camp on offer. You can also see immediately whether the camp is still available, on a waiting list, or already full.

Caritas Jeunes et Famille, summer camps open to all
The vacation service of Caritas Jeunes et Famille asbl organizes summer camps for all children and teenagers. The activities are open to everyone, regardless of the parents' income, the child's background, or any disability they may have. The camps for 4- to 17-year-olds take place in Luxembourg, Spain, the Netherlands, France, and other countries. They are held in both summer and winter. SNJ – National Youth Service
A contact organization in non-formal education, the SNJ also organizes numerous leisure activities, including summer camps. It also offers training courses for young people, in partnership with associations. Available from the age of 6, the activities are mainly conducted in Luxembourgish.

If you opt for sports camps, the Youth Hostels work with the City of Luxembourg's Sports Department. Your children will be able to practice various sports: mountain biking, water sports at the Lultzhausen or Remerschen bases, horse riding in Luxembourg, or rock climbing in Echternach.
Science activities at the Luxembourg Science Center in Differdange
The Luxembourg Science Center in Differdange is a center dedicated to science and technology. Young people can explore more than 100 interactive stations. Daily workshops allow them to discover the world in a different way. It's an excellent way to approach science and technology in a more fun way.
Creative activities Base 1 Makerspace
The Base 1 space on the Forum Geesseknäppchen campus offers a variety of half-day workshops. Courses can be combined over several days.
Young people can learn about programming, 3D printing, electrical work, and creative sewing.
Student jobs for older children
From the age of 15, young people can work in summer jobs during the school holidays. These youth jobs are paid. Young people can earn money to finance future projects and/or their studies. In addition, they can gain professional experience at an early age. This will be very useful when they find themselves looking for a job.
