The INL, a key player in language learning
The National Language Institute (INL) is a key player in language learning in Luxembourg. For a very modest annual fee, you can learn up to eight languages, including Luxembourgish, German, French, Chinese, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese, with certification at the end. There's no excuse not to integrate into Luxembourg's many communities!

In Luxembourg, you will find many private companies offering language courses either on an individual basis, between companies, or within companies.
Most of these companies specializing in language learning also organize intensive language courses for children during the school holidays in French, German, or English.

Luxembourgish is one of the three official languages of Luxembourg. Proficiencyin this language is essential for obtaining Luxembourgish nationality, as this requires passing a written and oral Luxembourgish test.

Learn Luxembourgish through public institutions
With the aim of integrating their citizens, many Luxembourg municipalities offer Luxembourgish language courses to their residents. Contact your local municipality for more information.
The City of Luxembourg, for example, offers Luxembourgish language and culture courses for adults. These courses are divided into four levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced, and oral proficiency. Classes are held twice a week from September to July. You can find detailed course content and schedules on the VDL website.
In addition, language courses are offered directly in Luxembourg schools to new expatriate students to facilitate their integration.
Public integration organizations such as ASTI and CLAE also offer courses in Luxembourgish and other official languages to facilitate the integration of newcomers to Luxembourg.

Want a Luxembourgish dictionary to quickly and easily translate a word or expression? Now you can, with the LOD (Letzebuerger Online Dictionnaire) dictionary app available on Apple and Google.
You will find translations from Luxembourgish into French, Portuguese, German, and English, and vice versa. The dictionary also provides word pronunciations, grammar rules, verb conjugations, and more.

INL Luxembourgish learning platform
The National Language Institute has launched a completely free online platform for learning Luxembourgish.
The llo.lu platform can be downloaded as an app and allows you to participate in self-learning activities in Luxembourgish with grammar lessons, vocabulary, fun activities, and more.
Several course levels are available, from beginner levels A1 and A2 to advanced level C1.
The interfaces are available in English, French, German, Portuguese, and Luxembourgish.
Café des Langues: learn in a friendly atmosphere!
A wonderful concept that is cultural, educational, gastronomic, and free, the Language Café allows you to learn a language in a very friendly and enjoyable way! And you get to meet new people too!
Several associations and venues regularly organize language cafés. These include:
Check the Café des Langues Facebook page for dates and locations. These events are held once a month, usually on the second-to-last Tuesday of the month. On the day of the event, simply sit down at the table of your choice.
You can practice French, English, Luxembourgish, German, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Chinese... There are no limits! Over a BBQ, tapas, or other snacks, you will learn not only languages, but also about different cultures and make new friends.

ASTI also organizes language cafés on the last Wednesday of every month at the Drescherhaus Cultural Center in Dommeldange. Registration is required and can be done by emailing travcom@asti.lu. You can practice Luxembourgish, French, German, English, Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese. Drinks and childcare are available on site.
