Nopeschfest: an annual tradition full of conviviality

With the arrival of spring, there's nothing like spending more time outdoors to enjoy the beautiful weather. The good news? The next Nopeschfest is likely to be held on the weekend of May 29, 2026. The dates are still to be confirmed. This event brings together thousands of neighbors across more than 40 Luxembourg municipalities, coordinated bythe Association Luxembourgeoise des Solidarités de Proximité (ALSP). Whether you are new to the neighborhood or a long-time resident, this festival is the perfect opportunity to share a friendly moment over a drink, homemade pie, or culinary specialties from your country. No formalities, just join the party and bring something to share!

Why take part in the Neighbors' Day or Nopeschfest?

Neighborhood Day is not just a simple event. Nopeschfest is a unique opportunity for newcomers to a neighborhood. You canshare a friendly moment, regardless of your age or nationality. Neighborhood Day is the perfect opportunity to get to know your neighbors. You can:

  • discover a variety of dishes by tasting specialties from other countries,
  • learn about other cultures,
  • get to know your neighbors and form lasting friendships.

Held in streets, courtyards, or parks, the Nopeschfest allows residentsto transform their neighborhood into a place of celebration and solidarity. Once the party is over, you will have the satisfaction of finally knowing your neighbors. You will then be able to exchange much more than just a simple "Moïen."

Facilities for organizing your own Nopeschfest

Would you like to take the initiative and organize a party in your neighborhood? For this friendly event, local authorities actively encourage neighbors to get together.

  • Contact your local authority to obtain equipment such as tables, benches, or even drinks.
  • Advertise the event by distributing invitations (available on the Nopeschfest.lu website) in mailboxes in your neighborhood.
  • Apply for local permits, particularly to temporarily close off a street so that children can play safely. The municipality will take all the necessary measures to make room for participants. Children will be able to play safely and take over the street under the watchful eyes of all the neighbors.

Don't forget to share your unforgettable moments on social media with the event hashtags! You can also like the Facebook page and share your photos there.

Adopt the rules of good neighborliness to live in harmony

Outside of festivities, neighborhood life is based on respectful and harmonious relationships. Here are some basic principles to ensure good neighborliness on a daily basis.

Respect quiet hours

Each municipality sets time slots during which excessive noise is prohibited. In general, you should avoidmaking noise between 10 p.m . and 7 a.m. If you are organizing a party or carrying out work, inform your neighbors in advance to avoid any misunderstandings. Respect the indicated decibel level, close your windows, and turn down the volume after a certain time. If you make noise above 30 decibels, you risk a visit from the Grand Ducal Police and a fine. You can find the Grand Ducal regulations here. Contact your local authority for details of the local municipal by-law.

Gardening work: be considerate of your neighbors

Gardening work is only permitted during certain hours defined by the municipalities. Noisy equipment such as lawnmowers is generally permitted:

  • Weekdays: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Saturdays: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sundays and public holidays: time slots are often restricted or prohibited.

Check with your local authority for specific rules.

Pets and good neighborliness rules

Pets are full-fledged members of the family. However, out of respect for everyone, please be considerate of your neighbors and public spaces.

  • Pick up after your pets and use the dog waste bags provided by the local authority.
  • Respect private and public spaces, especially children's parks and gardens.

Green spaces are not a toilet for dogs... Children from the neighborhood often come to play there. So think of them and avoid leaving your pet's small (or large) waste lying around. Train your dog. Even if your neighbors' gardens are not fenced in, they are still private spaces. Municipalities also prohibit dogs from entering playgrounds, flower beds, etc. Similarly, if your neighbors' cat comes to your house, avoid feeding it. Cats are independent animals. Imagine how disappointed your neighbors and their children will be when their cat spends its days at your house because you feed it.

Cleanliness of private and public spaces

Your environment is shared. Even if you are at home, it is unpleasant to walk past litter or objects lying around. Clear away your bulky items and clean up in front of your home to contribute to a pleasant environment. Furthermore, under winter regulations, you are not allowed to leave your vehicle's engine running, even in front of your door. You must also clear snow from sidewalks and de-ice them in case of freezing. Dispose of your waste in the bins provided for this purpose and other waste collection points. A cigarette butt takes several months to disappear, chewing gum several years.

Managing neighborhood conflicts

Disagreements can arise, but calm and friendly dialogue often resolves tensions. If you have a conflict with your neighbor, try talking to them first. Often, simply explaining things and communicating in a friendly manner is enough to prevent conflicts from escalating . Is this not possible and you have already tried? If necessary, call in a mediator. To do so, contact your local authority. As a last resort, you can file a complaint with the Grand Ducal Police in the event of serious or repeated nuisance.

Join the party and build a supportive community

Nopeschfest is not just an event. It is an invitation to build a warm and supportive community where everyone feels welcome. So mark your calendar to share a good time with your neighbors! Contact your local authority to participate or organize a party with your neighbors.
