Let's run together against breast cancer: Broschtkriibslaf
Charity run against breast cancer on October 4, 2025
The Broschtkriibslaf, organized annually by Europa Donna Luxembourg, is an iconic charity run dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. Since its creation in 2003, it has taken place on the first Saturday of October, in the heart of Pink October, the international month of awareness for breast cancer screening.
The next edition will take place on October 3, 2026. It is sponsored by several organizations , including the CMCM health insurance company.
History and objectives of the Broschtkriibslaf
Since its first edition in 2003, the Broschtkriibslaf has attracted nearly 600 participants, demonstrating the Luxembourg community's commitment to this cause. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 and 2021 editions were held in virtual format, allowing participants to show their support remotely. Since then, the race has offered hybrid participation, both in person and virtually, thus broadening its accessibility.
The main objective of the Broschtkriibslaf is to raise awareness of the importance of early breast cancer screening.
The atmosphere of this race in solidarity with women with breast cancer is friendly and special. Even in the rain, the race is of particular importance to all the women present. There is a feeling of solidarity and mutual support that is incomparable. Whatever your athletic level, this race is worth running or simply walking, even from home.
The funds raised during this event are used to support people affected by the disease and their families. They thus contribute to improving their care and quality of life.

Fighting breast cancer: statistics and organizations
In Luxembourg, breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women. More than 500 new cases are diagnosed each year. However, thanks to the combined efforts of health authorities and associations, the survival rate has improved considerably. It now stands at 85% five years after diagnosis. This progress is attributed to increased awareness, effective screening programs, and advances in treatment.
Several organizations play a key role in this fight, including:
- Europa Donna Luxembourg: this association is dedicated to raising awareness, supporting patients, and promoting early screening. Europa Donna Luxembourg
- The Breast Clinic at the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) offers multidisciplinary care for patients, from screening to treatment and post-treatment follow-up. CHL
- The Luxembourg Ministry of Health is implementing national screening programs. The Mammography Program encourages women aged 50 to 69 to have a free mammogram every two years.
The importance of breast cancer screening and prevention
Early screening is essential to increase the chances of curing breast cancer. Women are advised to perform regular breast self-examinations and participate in organized screening programs. More information is available on the sante.lu website.
In addition, adopting a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular physical activity, helps reduce the risk of developing breast cancer.
In conclusion, the Broschtkriibslaf is much more than just a race. It symbolizes the solidarity, support, and commitment of an entire community in the fight against breast cancer.
